The Break

A cold chill through the air, followed with dripping sounds of water leaking through stone walls. It left a musky mold smell in the place, it was a dark place, barely any light got through all the down in the tunnels. Death was an all time high in both smell and count, poor souls either died from tortures or from their wounds received by tortured. No one here cared for these poor creatures, they were brought here to die, to be forgotten, to be a slave. Humans had finally gathered nearly all the Chimera's, since their victory in capturing Voltaire, most Chimeras gave up easily.

Their hope, the one they looked up to, the one they believed would change their fate, was now broken. Sitting in a cell alone, left in solitude, every now and then guards come and pick at the shell of man who once tried to live a full free life. A life full of wonder and joy, trying to show others a beautiful place and trying grasp how everyone else saw the world. Now he cared not for such things, only for a death, a freedom from the cage he was put in. Betrayed by people he trusted and tried befriending, abandon by people he held close to his heart. People he had admired, strive to please and honor.

Looking into this mans eyes, this poor creatures eyes, you saw no hope. Just another being who has given up, who was broken into submission for humans purposes. It had been five months since capture and he was done, not even able to grasp how Nine could stay in such predicament for a hundred and fifty years. Though those thoughts had long left him, he no longer thought of anything anymore, he just sat in wait. Waiting and praying that Thanatos, god of death would come and take him, come and ease his soul. He had once prayed ever night to Thanatos for just that and each night he was ignored. After a while he just lost all will, the guards would be sent in for a means of trying to spark some fire in him, to try and see if he was usable. He just showed that he was nothing anymore, just a shell.

One evening things seem different, but Voltaire didn't notice. He didn't seem to care if there was change, it meant nothing to him now. This evening a new guard was sent to Voltaire, the guard was young and had a spunk about him that just enticed the overseer. The guard had worked very hard to get to Voltaire, he climb and did things just to be right there. The night came and his fellow partner decided it was time to muse themselves. He took the new guard to Voltaires cell, he grabbed a whip that had aether shards on the tip.

"I think this is his favorite." the guard spoke "Since your new, I'll let you have the first strike. Go ahead, he won't do anything. Honestly its rather pathetic, he just sits or lays there, like he is just a husk." the guard laughed, but the new one did not.The young man took the whip, while the other guard cackled and used it to wrap it around the other guards throat. He would tug and pull until the guard fell unconscious and then he snapped his neck for good measure. He took off his helmet to reveal a lively colored hair of purples, blues and greens. His face full of scars and he moved into the cell. he kneels next to Voltaire and frowns as best he could, giving he had scars from his mouth to his ears, like a morbid smile. "Man they really did a number on you, don't worry, I'm busting you out. No one will find you where I put you. You'll be safe."

Voltaire didn't look to have heard him or even acknowledge he was even there, if he did hear him, he didn't seem to care at all. The male walked to a shadow and spoke "Come on, we don't have all night, they will come looking." Out of the shadows emerged Xadus who did not grin like he always had. No he saw Voltaire and wanted to weep, he knew pain and this was hard to see. To see his friend who had always been the leader, who always showed the way and now, now he just was empty. Xadus knew the look and could only hope someone could snapped him back again. He grabbed Voltaire up and spoke "I know Jester, but what about Nine, what are we going to do about him, you know he will find him."

Jester sighs "Ya I know, but last I heard from V, there was only one other person aside form Kain who was possibly strong enough to fight Nine in his mind, we take Voltaire him and Nine follows. I am hoping the guy can fix Nine, maybe Nine can fix Voltaire."
Xadus gave a nod "I hope so, how are you sure we can trust this one guy."
Jester frowns "We can't, we just have to have faith."
With that the two headed into the shadows, away from the cell of hopelessness and despair, away from the dying dreams and broken creatures.
